Local Support:
You must have a computer hardware tech support with same day (or at least next day) parts and service. Discount stores will replace a malfunctioning computer within the warranty period; however, most make no guarantees on the replacement time or data recovery. In case of repair, they often reformat your hard drive (erasing all the data) and expect you to restore data from backups. We recommend that you find a local computer vendor, whose references check out, who cares about you as a customer, and who is willing to do on site repairs.
Internet Connection:
We highly recommend a broadband connection for your office. Inquire your local or national Internet Service Providers for information on the services available. These connection rates offer a higher data transfer rate than the traditional dial-up providers.
If a broadband connection is not available on your area, we recommend the following modems:
• US ROBOTICS Courier 56 KBPS V.90 (most reliable)
• US ROBOTICS Sportster 56 KBPS V.90
Data Storage:
We recommend tape data storage. While it may sound low-tech in a world of CD burners, tape backup is faster than a ZIP drive and has greater capacity.
We recommend:
• Seagate TapeStor Travan 40 GB (or greater).
• Tape Format is Travan TR-5 with at least 6 pre-formatted tapes.
Uninterruptable power supply ( UPS ):
A UPS will prevent data loss in the event of power failure, by allowing shut down time after a power failure. Make sure it is powerful enough to handle your system. A 400 watt unit should be fine.
Note: Do NOT share the UPS with your laser printer.
Recommended:
American Power Corporation model BK400 or greater
Printer:
The report volume requires that your laser printer be an "office class" printer. The printer language required is PCL 5 or greater. (Lexmark T630 or HP LaserJet 4050 or better) The printer must be capable of printing to letter or legal size paper.
